Koilonychia refers to a condition where the nails exhibit a concave appearance on the upper surface due to reverse curvature in both the transverse and longitudinal axes. This condition is most noticeable in the nails of the thumb and great toe. Koilonychia can be either hereditary or caused by factors such as iron deficiency, hemochromatosis, or dermatophytosis.
